What to expect

What kind of Church are we?

Bethlehem is a United Methodist Church. We have roots going back over 150 years in the Methodist heritage, and hold it as an important element of our history. We meet in an historic building which reminds us of our past, yet we serve a living God so our mission is unfolding before us.

Bethlehem is a community church. While people from all over the suburban Philadelphia area join us, we believe we are central to the community of Thornton in which we are planted. Click here for our location and office hours.

Most importantly, Bethlehem is a safe place for people who are looking for answers to their spiritual questions. It’s also a place where those who have decided to follow Jesus Christ can learn and be encouraged in their spiritual growth.

What should I wear?

Feel free to wear whatever clothes make you feel most comfortable. We care more that you’re here, than what you wear.

How long are our services?

We shoot for an hour but sometimes go a little longer.

What are our services like?

Bethlehem’s services focus mostly on worship and preaching. We’ll share some announcements during the morning, express our hearts to God through music, and hear a teaching from God’s word. The 8:45 service incorporates traditional hymns and prayers. The 10:45 service is contemporary and includes a set of praise music that calls on the Holy Spirit. The message in both services is the same and the altar is always open for folks to gather for prayer at the end of the service. Both before and after the service, our fellowship hall is open to talk more with people you’ve met and grab a cup of coffee.

Will I have to say anything, sign anything, or be singled out?

Rest assured you won’t be put on the spot, singled-out, or embarrassed. Though we do receive an offering, we don’t want anyone to feel obligated to give. We do like to collect some basic information from people in our guest registry, but if you’d prefer not to, that’s all right with us.

What about the kids?

A staffed nursery is available during the 8:45 and 10:45 services.Children's Church is held during the 10:45 service for kids age 3 through 5th grade. Children begin Worship with their parents and are dismissed along with the teachers after we sing praise together. Parents are always welcome to attend and observe any of our children’s ministries.
